for flute, clarinet and piano
I like to write music that is surprising and unpredictable, yet flows smoothly and naturally from one unexpected phrase to the next. This piano trio has its share of surprises. It is dissonant and maintains only loose ties to any key, yet is not at all atonal. A few small rhythmic passages appear throughout to tie the piece together; not much else is repeated (which may explain its relatively long gestation). The most unexpected element might be the cheerful waltz that lies at the center of what is otherwise dark and mysterious.
